OUR CURRICULUM

At St Gabriel's Catholic Pre-School, we aim to create a foundation for learning for our pre-school children by providing a caring and secure environment, both indoors and outdoors. Our children are given the opportunity to learn and develop through contrasting combinations or structured and free play (see - Our Pre-School Day).

St Gabriel's Pre-School ensures that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is effectively implemented during each day to support each stage of a child's development. The EYFS is broken down into 7 Areas of Learning:-

3 PRIME AREAS

Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Making Relationships, Self Confidence and Self Awareness and Managing Feelings and Behaviour.

Physical Development: Moving and Handling and Health and Self Care.

Communication and Language: Listening and Attention, Understanding and Speaking.

4 SPECIFIC AREAS

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding of the World

Expressive Arts and Design

We lovingly implement the EYFS through our planning and observations to ensure each child is prepared for life when they leave to start school so they can reach their full potential.

Through observations the pre-school staff/key person can see a child by carefully looking, listening and noting the activities of a child or group of children. All these experiences are recorded using Tapestry (parents can download the Tapestry App). This allows parents to look over your child's learning journey whilst at pre-school and beyond.

We offer the children further experiences such as weekly 'ASM Sports' sessions (PE) to develop those core physical gross motor skills, and also weekly 'Rhythm Time' sessions which help to build those foundations for musical ability, rhythm and rhyme and expressing themselves through music.

We have our dinner in the main school hall which gets us familiar with the lunchtime routine for when we start school.

We also join in with school events and go to assemblies in School.

We love to get out and about and go for walks into the community on a regular basis to support whatever themes we have been learning about, we also have lots of special visitors in to teach us and broaden our understanding such as the fire engine, police officers, doctors, vets and nurses.
